download15-300x167According to British spy, Hundreds of British Muslims are traveling to Syria to take part in ‘terror tourism’ before plotting atrocities at home. British security agents cautioned that “terrorist tourism” had become a “very important strand” of the threat facing Britain.
MI5 director general Andrew Parker told MPs on the intelligence and security committee, that they head to the troubled country looking for the opportunity to take part in ‘jihadi’ activity.
“It has grown recently and is growing at the moment, because of Syria, Syria has become a very attractive place for people to go for that reason – those who support or sympathize with the al-Qaeda ideological message. We’ve seen low hundreds of people from this country go to Syria for periods and come back – some large numbers are still there – and get involved in fighting,” He added.
Mr. Parker said, in Britain, 34 terror plots have been thwarted since the July 7, 2005, bombings in London. The majority of the plans – some of which were “aimed at mass casualties” – were disrupted by the intelligence and security agencies.
MI6 head Sir John Sawers told the committee – which displayed a two-minute broadcast delay to avoid anything being aired, which could pose a national security risk – that more Britons have been killed abroad by terrorists this year than in the past seven years.
