ttfThe Victorian Government’s Regional Tourism Strategy will help the state maximise the opportunities of future growth in tourism and travel, according to peak national industry body Tourism & Transport Forum (TTF).
TTF Chief Executive Ken Morrison said the strategy provides a framework for industry development.
“Tourism is a major economic driver in regional areas, delivering job and business opportunities in every part of Victoria,” Mr Morrison said.
“Victoria’s Regional Tourism Strategy 2013-2016 will help to guide the future growth of the industry, articulating short and medium term actions Tourism Victoria will take to stimulate tourism in regional Victoria.
“We are pleased to note that identifying investment priorities is also part of the strategy, as improving existing destinations and building new tourism infrastructure is critically important to driving regional tourism and growing the visitor economy and we look forward to commitments from the Victorian government on funding for tourism investment in the 2014-15 Budget.
“It’s critical that the strategy also addresses regional Victoria’s dependence on traditional markets and the challenges of growing international dispersal by making destinations outside Melbourne more accessible, attractive and relevant for Asian visitors.
“Tourism has been identified as a potential super-growth sector for Australia which can contribute an additional $250 billion to the nation’s economy over the next 20 years an having the right products and experiences available will be central to enticing more international visitors to regional areas.
“Having an integrated tourism strategy and setting clear goals will help the state achieve its aim of doubling overnight tourism to $24.7 billion by 2020.
“Maximising the opportunities of global tourism growth can help deliver future prosperity to Australia, generating economic activity across the country and Victoria’s regions offer a vast array of unique experiences to visitors from home and abroad.”
