Tibet Museum showcases photographs of the 14th Dalai Lama for visitors

Tibet-Museum-staff-Kunga-Phuntsok-explaining-the-exhibition-to-Tibetans-of-KalimpongThe Tibet Museum of Dept. of Information and International Relations, Central Tibetan Administration concluded its exhibition tour of Darjeeling, Kalimpong and Gangtok on 19 July at Gangtok, Sikkim.

The traveling exhibition, which had commenced from Darjeeling on 6 July, had also exhibited at Kalimpong on 13 and 14 July 2015. The photographic exhibitions on two titles, ‘Biography of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama’ and ‘The Burning Question- why are Tibetans turning to Self-Immolation?’ were showcased at the Tibetan community hall (Mani Lhakhang) in Kalimpong. Students and staff of C.S.T Kalimpong, local Tibetan populace came and saw the exhibition in the community hall.

Gangtok, the picturesque town and capital of Sikkim, was the third and final venue for the Tibet Museum’s current leg of traveling exhibition tour. The Tibet Museum showcased the exhibitions, ‘Biography of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama’ and ‘The Burning Question- why are Tibetans turning to Self-Immolation?’

The exhibition was showcased at the Cholka Sum hall, the community hall of Tibetans in Gangtok. The photo exhibition was showcased as a part of Tibet Festival, which was jointly organized by Delhi based Indo-Tibet Co-ordination office (ITCO), The Tibet Museum and Tibetan communities of Gangtok.

Shri Prem Das Rai, the only Lok Sabha member of the state inaugurated the three-day Tibet Festival and photo exhibition on 17 July 2015. Apart from Photo exhibition, The Tibet Museum also screened documentary films related to Tibet such as ‘What Remains of Us’, ‘The Burning Question’ and ‘History of Tibet’. Tibetans, local Sikkimese, school children and teachers from around 15 schools came and saw the exhibition and documentary film screening.
