The highly anticipated release of Wine Classification VI by Langton’s Australia will take place in Adelaide during next year’s new-look Tasting Australia.
Tourism Minister Leon Bignell said it was exciting that Tasting Australia had partnered with Langton’s on the premium wine event, which is considered a ‘form guide’ of Australia’s best performing and most prized wines.
“Langton’s Classification of Australian Wine is arguably the most influential classification of fine wine outside Europe,” he said.
“During the past 25 years, it has shaped the world’s impression of Australia’s ultra-fine wine scene, and I’m delighted such a significant honour roll of Australia’s most prized wines will be released in Adelaide during Tasting Australia.”
The announcement will take place at the National Wine Centre on May 1st followed by a public tasting of every “classified” wine (over 130) including Penfolds Grange, Henschke Hill of Grace, Mount Mary Cabernet Sauvignon, Clonakilla Shiraz Viognier and Leeuwin Estate Art Series Chardonnay.
Mr Bignell said Langton’s was an established benchmark for the standing and performance of Australia’s rare and distinguished wines.
“Hosting the release of Wine Classification VI by Langton’s Australia reinforces the state’s reputation for premium food and wine and will complement the diverse Tasting Australia program.”
Master of Wine and Langton’s Fine Wine Principal Andrew Caillard visited Adelaide for the Savour Australia wine forum in September, and said the new partnership was an exciting development.
“We are living in the golden age of wine, and Australia’s ultra-fine wine movement has played a significant role in its creation,” he said.
“Langton’s Classification, released every four years, is a form guide of Australia’s most collectible fine wines.
“Behind all the classified wine labels are remarkable stories of ingenuity and love for the Australian landscape. Combined, they represent over two centuries of effort, from colonial beginnings to a beautiful contemporary aesthetic.
“Langton’s Classification of Australian Wine VI will be announced in Adelaide at the National Wine Centre and for the first time will hold a public tasting on the same day the list is released.
“This is an exciting partnership for us and we are looking forward to being an integral part of the Tasting Australia program,” said Mr Caillard.
Both trade and consumer events will be staged on Thursday 1 May, 2014. Tickets go on sale today and can be purchased online at www.tastingaustralia.com.au
Tickets are limited, so wine lovers are urged to secure their place at the table for this once-in-a-lifetime wine tasting.
Tasting Australia will be held from 27 April–4 May 2014 in Adelaide and regional South Australia.
