victoria-state-governmentLATAM Airlines will commence a direct service between Chile and Victoria next year.

Minister for Tourism and Major Events John Eren announced today South America’s largest airline would operate a tri-weekly service, and become the only carrier to offer the route.

The new service, secured by the Andrews Labor Government, will boost tourism and trade, creating jobs for Victorians.

The announcement coincides with the Australia-Chile Economic Leadership Forum, which begins today. The event brings together Australian and Chilean business leaders to discuss trade and investment between our nations.

Melbourne Airport is now home to 31 international airlines – and that means more visitors than ever before can come here from right around the world and see for themselves the best of everything Victoria offers.

Once LATAM Airlines commences its new service, more than 46,000 international flights to the airport will operate each year.

Since we came to Government in 2014, we’ve secured an additional 173,000 seats for Victoria. That’s an estimated economic impact of between $386 million and $575 million.

LATAM’s Santiago to Melbourne service begins in October 2017.
