Phuket's Kata-KaronPhuket’s, Kata-Karon tourist district is facing some drastic consequences as some tour managers of the region are taking customers under their wing leaving others without business which is causing a major economic setback for many tour operators.

Many operators, resort managers and other tourism related businesses are facing unemployment owing to shut-downs. South of Patong which is a major attraction as a holiday destination is facing the maximum impact owing to its high cost.

Chinese tour package managers are the ones stealing business away from the local community of Phuket. They are manipulating business in the Kata Karon leaving local tour operators high and dry.

The town has a desolate picture, after 6pm it almost looks ghostly where business flourished after 8pm earlier. But now the most common sight is properties with signs showing ‘For Rent’ or ‘For Sale’. The income which had touched 100.000 baht in peak season has gone to a low of 30,000 baht, if business has been good. Things look dismal for this much fetched tourist destination. Now the quality of tourist arriving in these destinations has fallen.

Professionals attached to tourism activity are moving to places like Korea looking for better opportunities. The destination has become quite over priced as there are few visitors.
