Austrian Airlines transported more than 1.1 million passengers in the month of August 2016. This comprises a rise of 2.2 percent from the previous year.
The flight offering in available seat kilometers (ASK) was increased by 3.9 percent to more than 2.4 billion. Austrian Airlines sold more than 2 billion revenue passenger kilometers (RPK) in August 2016, an increase of 1.0 percent from the prior-year level. Capacity utilization of the flights (passenger load factor) was at an average of 84.5 percent, a decrease of 2.4 percentage points compared to August 2015. The number of flights in August 2016 rose by 6.2 percent to a total of 12,377 flights. This is mainly due to the expanded bilateral flight traffic between Austria and Germany.
On an accumulated basis, the red-white-red carrier succeeded in increasing passenger volume from January to August 2016: On balance, Austrian Airlines transported more than 7.4 million passengers, an increase of 2.8 percent from the prior-year period. The flight offering measured in available seat kilometers (ASK) climbed by 4.2 percent to more than 16.3 billion. Revenue passenger kilometers (RPK) sold by Austrian Airlines in the first eight months of 2016 rose 2.0 percent from the previous year to more than 12.5 billion. Capacity utilization fell slightly by 1.6 percentage points to 76.7 percent.
