The U.S. Travel Association President and CEO Roger Dow issued the following statement on the Senate’s vote to confirm Department of Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson:
“Secretary Johnson’s vast experience in large government agencies should prove invaluable in overseeing one of the most pivotal and complex cabinet departments. Travel has been one of the bright spots of the recovery, adding jobs faster than the rest of the economy, but sustaining that progress is dependent upon well-functioning agencies like the Transportation Security Administration and Customs and Border Protection. The travel community looks forward to continuing our productive relationship with the Department of Homeland Security under Secretary Johnson, and we have every expectation that he will continue to build upon the recent record of innovative policies that have simultaneously improved security and the travel experience.
“We further urge the Congress to expedite consideration of CBP nominee Gil Kerlikowske, to give CBP permanent leadership at a critical time for travel.”
