ttfThe 2014 season of the QPAC International Series, presenting the American Ballet Theatre, opens tomorrow in Brisbane and will provide a significant boost to the visitor economy, according to peak national industry body Tourism & Transport Forum (TTF).
TTF Acting Chief Executive Trent Zimmerman said cultural events like the QPAC International Series are major drawcards which attract visitors and boost the local economy.
“The QPAC International Series is an innovative partnership between Tourism and Events Queensland and the Queensland Performing Arts Centre, demonstrating the strong links between the tourism and arts sectors,” said Mr Zimmerman
“Cultural visitors are high yielding, spending more and staying longer than the average traveller.
“Cultural events such as the QPAC International Series are essential to attracting cultural visitors, providing a reason for people to travel and helping to stimulate spending across accommodation, retail, entertainment, dining, and transport.
“The American Ballet Theatre’s performances of the classic ballet Swan Lake and contemporary triple bill, Three Masterpieces, will also add to Brisbane’s reputation as a cultural centre and build on Brisbane’s position as a New World City.
“TTF’s recent report, Backing Major Events, highlights the importance of major events as drivers of visitation and shows that Australians support governments getting behind the development and staging of major events.
“Tourism creates employment and economic activity across Queensland, delivering $22.1 billion in Gross State Product in 2012-13 and supporting 236,000 jobs statewide.
“TTF congratulates the Queensland Performing Arts Centre and Tourism Events Queensland on creating this series and building on state’s strong events calendar.”
