US hit by freezing storm; more than 1000 flights cancelled

timthumbTumultuous weather continues continue to disrupt normal life in southwest US. Freezing rain coupled with strong winds forced closure of schools and businesses. The freezing conditions are expected to last through the weekend.
According to reports, 4 people died of hypothermia in the San Francisco Bay Area. Extreme weather conditions also forced the cancellation of Dallas Marathon. The much coveted event was expected to draw 25000 participants. Power cuts were prevalent in North Texas.
More than 1000 flights were cancelled at Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport. Passengers were stranded in respective terminals waiting for another flight. Cabs were few as most of the drivers stayed back at home.
