Use of handheld electronic devices permitted on Adria Airways flights

Published on : Wednesday, September 3, 2014

adria-airPassengers on Adria Airways flights can use the following electronic devices without restrictions: small medical devices such as heart pacemakers, hearing aids, portable oxygen concentrators, insulin pumps, electronic watches, handheld GPS receivers, electronic games (e.g. Game Boy), audio/video players and recorders (e.g. CD, DVD, MP3, iPod) and cameras.

Under the new rules the use of handheld electronic devices (e.g. smartphones, tablet computers and e-readers) is permitted during all phases of Adria flights. For safety reasons, the use of these electronic devices is prohibited in conditions of low visibility during take-off and landing (known as Low Visibility Operations) and when requested by the captain. All functions that involve sending or receiving data by wireless means must be switched off, so these devices must be set to offline or flight mode before take-off.

Electronic devices that may be used with restrictions at cruising altitude, provided the “Fasten seat belt” sign has been switched off, include larger devices that cannot be held in the hand such as portable computers (laptops, notebooks and other folding devices). During certain phases of the flight (taxiing to and from the runway, take-off, landing) these devices must be stowed in accordance with safety regulations. All functions that involve sending or receiving data by wireless means must be switched off, so these devices must be set to offline or flight mode before take-off.

Electronic devices that may not be used at any time during the flight are, as before: walkie-talkies, AM/FM radio and television receivers, telemetry equipment, radio-controlled toys and wireless computer mice.

The captain’s instructions on the restriction and prohibition of the use of electronic devices will be communicated to you by the cabin crew. Anyone deliberately disobeying safety instructions may be subject to a fine under the Aviation Act.
