unnamed-214-300x261Verdura Resort is celebrating a sparkling new accolade after being named as Italy’s number one golf resort in Golf World magazine’s eagerly-awaited new ‘Top 100 Resorts in Continental Europe 2017’ rankings.

The deluxe Sicilian resort – a Rocco Forte hotel – has enhanced its position among Europe’s elite golfing destinations after being rated in fourth place in the poll, which assessed each entry over five different categories – golf courses, accommodation, practice facilities, accessibility and amenities.

Verdura was one of 10 Italian resorts to be included in the list, scoring a total of 84.3 points out of 100, and the magazine’s judging panel was glowing in its praise for the luxury facilities it offers guests on and off the course.

The Golf World Verdict said: “The Sicilian resort oozes class; it’s high calibre in every respect. Unsurprisingly well-designed courses by (Kyle) Phillips are matched by the hotel and facilities. If you’re surprised Verdura is in the top five, we are guessing you haven’t been there.”

Marco Truffelli, General Manager at Verdura Resort, said: “It is a real privilege for Verdura to have been ranked among the very best golf resorts in Europe.
“It is a reflection of our continued drive to improve our facilities for golfers, families and anyone looking to enjoy a memeroable, luxury resort experience in beautiful Sicily.
“It was the vision of Sir Rocco Forte to own a resort with two magnificent championship golf courses and Kyle Phillips strategic layout ensured this vision was realised. Verdura is a treat for any golfer and we are delighted that this has been recognised by Golf World with this accolade.”

Chaired by Golf World magazine’s courses and travel editor Chris Bertram, the Top 100 judging panel sought views from leading figures in the golf tourism industry as well as some of Europe’s most respected golf travel media before finalising their list.

Host of the Sicilian Open in 2012 and nestling adjacent to the Mediterranean in 230 hectares of stunning landscape, Verdura’s world-class golf facilities include two outstanding 18-hole championship courses – the East Course and West Course – as well as a par-three nine-hole course, double-ended driving range and first-class academy.

Built to the highest specifications, the resort’s three links-style layouts offer a golf experience to remember, with tee times arranged at 12-minute intervals to ensure free-flowing play, five sets of tees making the courses playable for golfers of all abilities and one of its courses dedicated daily to two-ball play only.

Situated on Sicily’s southern coast between Agrigento and the fishing city of Sciacca, an 80-minute drive from Trapani and Palermo airports, Verdura Resort features 203 rooms and suites – all with a sea view.

Away from the fairways, the resort features an array of other luxury sports and lifestyle facilities while guests also have the opportunity to sample a taste of the gastronomy, wine, history and culture that has made Sicily famous across the world.

Verdura Resort has won widespread acclaim across the global golf travel industry since opening in 2009 and the Golf World award is the latest international honour to be bestowed on one of the new stars of European golf.

Bookings at Verdura have increased across its golfing sectors over the last 12 months, and its success on the course has been mirrored off it. In addition to being named ‘Best Golf Hotel in Italy’ at the 2015 World Golf Awards, the deluxe venue was one of the privileged recipients of an ‘Editors’ Choice Award for Best International Resorts 2016’ from Golf Digest magazine, the world’s best known golf title.
