wegoWego, the leading travel metasearch website and travel app in the Middle East and Asia Pacific, announced their partnership with Almosafer; the fast growing online travel agency (OTA) based in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the first local OTA partner for Wego.

Speaking from the Middle East’s leading online travel conference ‘Web In Travel’ in Dubai, Wego Chief Executive Officer and Co-Founder, Ross Veitch shared the news.

“Online travel planning and booking has been enthusiastically adopted by travellers from Saudi Arabia in recent years and the Kingdom is now one of Wego’s fastest growing markets,” said Veitch. “We are thrilled to have Almosafer.com, our first Saudi-based OTA partner, going live with Wego today and to be able to offer our users Almosafer’s great range of hotel deals, popular local payment options such as Sadad and “Pay Later” and first class customer service for Saudis by Saudis.”

“We are very excited to participate in Wego’s metasearch and expect to reach new segments of the Saudi Arabian market who are looking for the best prices and best value,” said Farooq Aljeraisy, CEO & Founder of Almosafer. “Today we are launching with Wego in KSA but very soon we expect to expand the partnership into new markets as part of Almosafer’s aggressive expansion plans for 2015/16.”

Wego first entered the Saudi market with a fully localised metasearch product in 2012 and is now used by 3+ million Saudi travellers each month. The Wego Flights and Hotels mobile apps are consistently ranked #1 Travel app on both iOS and Android platforms in Saudi Arabia.  Other Saudi based partners for Wego include Saudia, the national carrier, Flynas the leading low cost carrier and Saudi Commission for Tourism and Antiquities for whom Wego powers the official tourism website.

The Middle East & North Africa (MENA) online travel market overall was estimated by Wego to be worth about $29B in 2014 and that Saudi Arabia was the largest individual country based on point of sale. Saudi Arabia has a mobile penetration rate of well over 100% and e-commerce growth in general and online travel specifically is being driven by smartphone users.
