Jazz-FestivalBayelsa State Government is planning to hold an international jazz festival on December 7 this year with the help of corporate support. International jazz festival is part of a series of entertainment events aimed at attracting global attention and support to Bayelsa State.

Markson Fefegha, commissioner for information and orientation said at a new conference in Yenagoa that the approaching event is due to Governor Seriake Dickson’s determination to “transform Bayelsa State into a tourism hub in Africa.”

Fefegha added, “The hitherto negative perception of the state is gradually giving way to a more robust and engaging positive image. This is the ideal template we desire to create so that tourism and the hospitality industries can flourish and prosper.” He also assured that with the construction of numerous infrastructures, the state would occupy a pride of place in the tourism industry and in no distant time host sports tourism like polo, golf, and tennis.

Ebizi Ndiomu Brown, director general of Bayelsa State Tourism Development Agency, revealed that the maiden edition has the theme, Rhythm of Life. Ndiomu argued that music is a strong and effective marketing tool and the choice of jazz is due to the local and international patronage it enjoyed among the elite and upwardly mobile young men and women. According to her, the period of the concert would see the hospitality industry “enjoy an unprecedented boom while other small business owners will equally smile to the bank because of the avalanche of customers.” She too explained that the music fiesta would provide a forum for the youth to interact with music maestros and be trained in other aspects of the global entertainment industry.
