Joe D’Alessandro, president and CEO of San Francisco Travel has issued the following statement in support of the possibility of the America’s Cup and associated events returning to San Francisco:
“In addition to the very positive economic impact, one of the greatest benefits of holding the America’s Cup in San Francisco was the global coverage of the event, broadcasting images of our beautiful skyline, bay and bridges around the world,” said Joe D’Alessandro, president and CEO of the San Francisco Travel Association. “We are very excited about bringing the 35th America’s Cup Event with its thrilling racing – and all of the opportunities for increased tourism, economic benefit and even more worldwide publicity – back to San Francisco.”
The San Francisco Travel Association is a private, not-for-profit organization that markets the city as a leisure, convention and business travel destination. With more than 1,500 partner businesses, San Francisco Travel is one of the largest membership-based tourism promotion agencies in the country. Tourism, San Francisco’s largest industry, generates in excess of $8.9 billion annually for the local economy and supports over 74,000 jobs.
