The political unrest in Bangkok keeps on hurting the tourism industry as Chinese visitors who booked their trips to Bangkok during the Lunar New Year are cancelling their bookings. 2013 was highly enterprising for the Bangkok tourism as far as tourists from China, Hong Kong and Taiwan. 4.2 million Visitors came to Bangkok from these three countries in 2013, a straight 46% jump over the figures of 2012.
The revenue loss predicted by the tourism department of Bangkok could amount to 22.5 billion baht. Although Pattaya and Hua Hin are expecting some foreign visitors, Bangkok remains under continued political strife during the Chinese New Year.
The economic index of Thailand was also hit by the continued shutdown in Bangkok. The baht slipped to 6% in the past three months, the worst performer after Indonesian rupiah. Records reveal that almost 3, 00,000 traditional Chinese visitors come to Bangkok every year during the lunar New Year. A number of flight cancellations have already upset the airline revenue of the country as well. Singapore Airlines announce the cancellation of 43 flights between Singapore and Bangkok between January 14 and Feb 27. Similarly, Thai Airways International PCL (THAI) announce that they are cancelling 25 flights from Hong Kong to Bangkok.
