Cornwall-beachesThe survey – conducted by the travel inspiration website 101 Holidays – asked more than 100 of the UK’s most influential travel editors and writers to name their favourite places both at home and around the world.

In the best UK beach category, Cornwall won the largest slice of the votes. Of those, Watergate Bay was the most popular followed by Porthcurno. Others that picked up votes included Bedruthan Steps, Bude, Crackington Haven, Daymer Bay, Harlyn, Hawkers Cove, Kynance Cove on the Lizard Peninsula, Lantic Bay near Fowey, Mawgan Porth and Nanjizal.

The beach with the most votes was Holkham in North Norfolk. However, Cornwall collected the most votes, followed by Wales and Scotland.

Malcolm Bell, Head of Visit Cornwall, comments: “Cornwall has over 300 beaches offering everything from long and golden stretches of sand, to secluded coves and iconic coastlines. Our beaches are loved by both visitors and locals alike and for them to be applauded by travel journalists, who experience exotic beaches around the globe, is a huge coup.”

Elsewhere in the survey, the travel journalists’ favourite country was France followed by India and Italy, while New York, London and Paris claimed the top three city spots. The journalists were also asked which destinations they disliked so much that they would never return. The “winners” were Las Vegas, Qatar and Dubai. Their favourite airline was British Airways.
