Cuban Tourism Minister Manuel Marrero and Portugal”s secretary of state for tourism, Adolfo Mesquita, on Saturday expressed interest in boosting bilateral ties in the sector.
That goal would benefit the two countries, both officials said at a meeting on the occasion of the 34th Tourism Fair (FITUR) in Madrid, according to a press release from the Cuban Embassy in Lisbon.
Cuban ambassador to Portugal Johana Tablada and the tourism advisor from the Cuban Embassy in Spain, Dulce Maria Sanchez, also attended the meeting.
In that context, Marrero met with Portuguese business people such as representatives of the Grupo Pestana and tour operators that work on the Cuban market.
About 9,440 Portuguese tourists traveled to Cuba in 2013, a slight increase compared to 2012.
This year, tour operators are organizing charter flights to Varadero beach on Saturdays, from June 7 to September 20.
