Cape Town Tourism Celebrates as Tourist Influx Increase

cape-townCape Town’s tourism sector continues to welcome local and international tourists, with main tourist attractions seeing an increase in the number of tourists. Cape Town International Airport has seen increase in total influx compared with November and December 2012.

In recent years, the city’s tourism sector has shown remarkable signs of expansion. Commissioned by the city, a study in 2013 by business services company Grant Thornton, showed that direct spend on tourism in Cape Town increased 5.6% a year from 2009 to 2012. The study also shows that the city’s tourism industry employed about permanent and temporary workers.

Grant Pascoe, mayoral committee member for tourism, events, and marketing, said, “The increase in visitor numbers to our big attractions over the festive season is good news for our tourism industry and a welcome respite for the local economy. Cape Town’s well-planned festive-season events also contributed to the steady stream of visitors into the city.”

Cape Town Tourism also stated a demanding summer season so far, with hotels, restaurants, and tourism services experiencing an increase in visitor numbers. The Victoria & Alfred (V&A) in Cape Town is one of the most famous tourist destinations in South Africa with a combination of retail, hotel, and residential development.
