ICC-Cricket-World-CupThe countdown to the 2015 ICC Cricket World Cup has begun with Adelaide celebrating one year to go until the largest global sporting event of 2015.

Deputy Premier John Rau has joined South Australian Cricket Association Chief Executive Keith Bradshaw at Adelaide Oval’s Southern Stand today to mark the one year to go anniversary and launch the sale of general admission tickets for Adelaide’s matches.

“Tickets for Adelaide’s three pool matches start at $20 for adults and $5 for children which makes the event very accessible for South Australians,” Mr Rau said.

“Adelaide’s match schedule kicks off with one of the biggest games in World Cricket – India v Pakistan – so allowing a family of two adults and two children attend for just $50 dollars makes for terrific value.”

Mr Rau said the India v Pakistan match is already the fastest selling match of the tournament.

“We are told that half of all international travel packages sold for the tournament so far are for this match in Adelaide,” he said.

“This game is the biggest rivalry in one day cricket and it will attract a world-wide television of up to a billion people, so the eyes of the world really are on Adelaide.”

Adelaide will host three pool matches during the event including the India v Pakistan game as well as a quarter-final featuring Australia should it qualify.

“Every year there is already a great festival vibe in Adelaide in February and March so I can’t think of a better place to be when the 2015 ICC Cricket World Cup comes to town,” Mr Rau said.

‘One year to go’ festivities at Adelaide begin at 11am with South Australian and Australian fast bowler Shaun Tait, who was a member of Australia’s team that won the Cricket World Cup in 2007, set to join the celebrations.
