With the aim of promoting the Chinese culture in Seychelles, and to also increase the visibility of Seychelles in China, new initiatives have been put forward after a discussion held between the Ministry of Tourism and Culture and the Chinese Embassy.
A trip to China in the near future in order to work with partners to continue to increase visitor arrival numbers from China so as to help justify the launch of direct flights from mainland China to Seychelles, and also to entice the setting up of a Chinese restaurant in the heart of Victoria, are among the top proposals.
Minister for Tourism and Culture Alain St.Ange announced this during a lunch hosted at the Seychelles Tourism Academy this week when he met with the Chinese students from Hebei China and those from the Shannon College in Ireland who are on work attachment in Seychelles.
Also present at the lunch were Chinese ambassador Shi Zhongjun, Principal Secretaries Anne Lafortune (for Tourism) and Benjamine Rose (for Culture), Chief Executive of the Seychelles Tourism Board Sherin Naiken, Deputy Chief Executive Nathalie Didon, Principal of the academy Flavien Joubert, and members of the tourism private sector trade.
Addressing those present before the lunch, Minister St.Ange said that he was happy because the friendship which today exists between Seychelles and China will continue to be developed through these kinds of exchanges and educational programs.“This will surely help to build on that bridge that exists between our country and China,” the Minister added.
Minister St.Ange said his ministry and the Tourism Board believe that the number of visitors from China will continue to increase, and the Chinese market for Seychelles will grow through such developments. “China is and will remain a target market for Seychelles tourism, and together we shall work to claim our fair share of this important market,” said Minister St.Ange.
