The shark was only 75 yards from the beach. The Massachusetts State Police helicopter spotted the shark and immediately alerted Duxbury Police and Duxbury harbormaster.

Sharks are not common at 75 yards proximity from the beach area. It was a 14 feet great white shark said the Marine Fisheries of Massachusetts.

The area was thoroughly checked by the U.S. Coast Guard, Duxbury harbormaster and the State police from their helicopter, to make sure that there were no more sharks in the area.

Sharks are not usually spotted in this area; they generally remain in the outer cape and not in the inside. The Shark swam southeast into deeper water and the beach was later reopened for the visitors. No injuries were reported.
