Spiritual tourism to bloom in New Jersey with the inaugural the world’s largest Hindu temple on August 10. Designed with Italian marble at an estimated cost of USD 18 million, the temple is 134 feet long and 87 feet wide. After the inauguration ceremonies on August 9 and 10, the temple complex would be open for public on August 16.
The Akshardham temple coming up at Robbinsville, New Jersey is dedicated to Bhagwan Swaminarayan. Constructed by Bochasanwasi Akshar Purushottam Swaminarayan Sanstha (BAPS), this sacred pilgrim destination features 108 pillars and three “garbha gruhs” or inner sanctums. The temple has been built according to the “Shilpa Shastras” or ancient architectural texts following a tradition of temple building through the millennia.
The current Guinness Book of World Records holder for the world’s largest comprehensive Hindu temple is the BAPS Swaminarayan Akshardham in New Delhi, India, which sits on a 59-acre complex.
The Bochasanvasi Akshar Purushottam Sansthan (BAPS) is more than a spiritual way of life for the Gujarati community around the world; it’s their way of life as espoused by their religious sect leader Pramukh Swami Maharaj.
