Railway bridge maintenance means diversions in Darwen

Published on : Wednesday, August 13, 2014

displaymedia-11-300x225Road diversions will begin in Darwen later this month when Network Rail starts essential railway bridge maintenance work.

The bridge on Greens Arms Road will have structural repairs carried out and be resurfaced as part of Network Rail’s commitment to provide a safe, reliable and efficient railway.

The work can only be completed while the bridge is closed to traffic and pedestrians and some of the work will have to be completed overnight while trains are not running.

Ian Joslin, area director for Network Rail, said: “This work is essential to extend the safe use of the bridge and reduce the amount of maintenance required in the future.

We have carefully planned the work to be completed in the safest and quickest way and apologise for any inconvenience caused.”

Work will take place from 0730 on 18 August until December 2014. Network Rail has worked closely with the local authority regarding the diversion, which will be clearly signed, and has done all it can to keep disruption to a minimum.
