The 2014 Best of the Best Culinary Awards saw competing chefs concoct creative dishes in four categories – (i) dim sum (shao mai and buns with molten filling), (ii) seafood (prawns), (iii) vegetables (gourd), and (iv) Chinese classics (rice noodles, noodles or rice).
A total of 9 dishes received the Gold with Distinction Awards in the cooking competition, which was organised by the Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB) and co-organised by the Hong Kong and China Gas Company Limited.
Now in its 13th year, the Best of the Best Culinary Awards continued to promote
Chinese cuisine to visitors and reinforce Hong Kong’s reputation as Asia’s culinary
capital. Visitors and local residents will have the chance to sample the winning
dishes at the Hong Kong Wine & Dine Festival at the end of October.
After a number of preliminary rounds, 10 finalists in each of the four categories
competed at the Chinese Cuisine Training Institute on 13 and 14 August. A team of
food critics, celebrity chefs and celebrities formed the judging panel to select the
winners of the Gold with Distinction Awards, Gold Awards and Silver Awards.
