Supported by WWF-Hong Kong, proceeds of the auction will go direct to fund essential Asian elephant conservation projects managed by The Asian Elephant Foundation (TAEF).

As a supporting partner for the Hong Kong charity auction, WWF is working with TAEF to save elephants from extinction. Part of the proceeds from the Grand Gala Auction will be donated to TAEF and WWF programmes for the benefit of elephants in the region and beyond.

The black tie event, taking place on Thursday, 11 September 2014 from 7:00 to 11:00 pm at the Island Shangri-La Hotel, will see each piece auctioned off by Sotheby’s. The auction line-up includes designs by Diane Von Furstenberg, Sir Richard Branson and Agnes B. The star-studded Hong Kong event will see high profile guests including Christine Loh, Under Secretary for the Environment of Hong Kong and Official Patron of Elephant Parade Hong Kong come together to raise money to fund conservation projects, ensuring a brighter future for the Asian elephant.

Founded by father and son Marc and Mike Spits in 2006, the Elephant Parade is the world’s largest art exhibition of decorated elephant statues. Each year, a new herd of elephants, are exhibited and auctioned off to raise funds towards elephant conservation. All net proceeds of each auction around the world as well as a further 20% of net Elephant Parade profits go to TAEF.

“The funds raised from the auction will be donated to various projects that are solely dedicated to the conservation of the Asian Elephant, and ultimately to saving them from extinction,” said Carmen Rademaker, Director of TAEF. “Through the grand auction event we hope others will not only come to love elephants but also help us to ensure their survival and well-being for the future.”

“It’s been a dynamic and meaningful journey bringing our elephants to Hong Kong,” said Mike Spits, Founder of Elephant Parade. “We have been overwhelmed by the response and support from the people here who have really embraced our exhibition. I also want to extend a huge thank you to all our artists who have created these masterpieces – they are all truly unique pieces of art, which all deserve a new home after the auction.”

Alongside the auction, guests will be offered a decadent five-course dinner inspired by the evening’s theme of conservation and the idea of sustainability. A bespoke menu has been carefully crafted using delectable ingredients and flavours from around the world.
