“After months of preparations the much-loved Alice Springs Masters Games are finally here,” said Minister for Sport, Recreation and Racing Matt Conlan.

“The Games are one of the Territory’s most iconic and social sporting events and attracts thousands of visitors to the Centre injecting millions into the local economy.

“They have rightly earned the reputation as the ‘Friendly Games’ over the years because of the hospitality, warmth, camaraderie and sense of fun Alice Springs is famous for.
“We have competitors who return year after year because they know what a special experience it is and we’ve worked hard to make 2014 one of the best Games ever.

“This year the Games Centre will be based in the CBD bringing all the action to the heart of Alice Springs. We will also have a big screen set up in the Todd Mall outside the Tourism Information Centre which will be playing video highlights of all the action and characters of the 2014 Games.

“On the field, it’s set to be a jam-packed week of competition with more than 3,800 participants and hundreds of volunteers across 32 sports. Every Australian state and Territory will be represented, with some even travelling from Ukraine, New Caledonia and the United States this year.

“The Opening Ceremony will once again be a major highlight of the Games with world-renowned Beatles tribute band, The Beatnix, leading the charge along with Australian rock icons Dragon and cover band Clearway sure to get everyone dancing the night away.
“I hope everyone has a fantastic night and don’t forget to share your Masters Games memories on social media through the official Games hashtag #ASMG2014.”

The Opening Ceremony will be held at ANZAC Oval this Saturday night 11 October. Gates will open at 5pm, and live entertainment will begin from approximately 6.30pm. Food, beverages and merchandise will be available for purchase.

Athletes will assemble for the traditional Opening Ceremony parade in the Todd Mall at 5.30pm and will depart on a march to ANZAC Oval at 6pm.
