National-Restaurant-Association-logo-300x125The National Restaurant Association issued the following statement regarding the House of Representative’s passage of the Innovation Act of 2013:

“The National Restaurant Association commends Congressman Goodlatte (R-Va.), Congressman DeFazio (D-Ore.), Congresswoman Lofgren (D-Calif.), and representatives from both parties on passing the Innovation Act of 2013. The Association considers this a solid step in providing businesses with relief from abusive infringement suits brought by patent trolls. While the Innovation Act is critical to counter the abuses of the patent system, any final reform package should do more to increase patent troll demand letter transparency and further strengthen patent litigation reform tools. Every day that goes by without new laws in place puts America’s nearly 1 million restaurants at greater risk of being victimized by patent trolls. The time to act is now, and we encourage Congress to keep the reform process moving forward. We look forward to working with Congress to improve demand letter transparency and shed some light on who these bad actor trolls really are.”

Scott DeFife, Executive Vice President of Policy and Government Affairs, National Restaurant Association
