Overnight stays in Germany: January – June 2014

gntb (1)Destination Deutschland registered the highest figures in overnight stays by international visitors in June 2014 (6.8 million), since records of lodging statistics began, in 1992.

 

Preliminary figures for the half year, Jan-June, released by Germany’s Federal Statistics Office show that foreign guests spent 32.8 million nights in lodging establishments/hotels (with ten or more beds), which equals a surplus of 1.9 million overnight stays – a growth of 6% in comparison to last year’s period. The UK specifically showed yet another rise with an increase of 5.6% for June 2014 compared to 2013 and 4.9% for the first half year, Jan-June 2014.

 
A recent study by the United Nations World Tourism Organisation revealed Germany is the 7th most popular holiday destination in the world.:
it is also one of the most popular destinations for culture. This year Germany was awarded it’s 39th UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Carolingian Westwork and Civitas Corvey on the Weser river . Klaus Lohmann, director of the German National Tourist Office UK and Ireland (GNTO) said: “The world cup of course put Germany in the spotlight once more but as these figures show, more and more people are realising that as a holiday destination, Germany offers lots of choide and a very warm welcome. From coasts to mountains with beautiful towns and villages in between, from culture, to sport, to city breaks or rural living, the UN study also demonstrates that Germany is one of most favourite holiday destinations in the world”.

 

 
The GNTO recently announced expansions to its ‘BarrierFree’ accessible holidays website and campaign: www.germany.travel/barrierfree and its ‘Royal Heritage Route’wich enables visitors to trace the steps of UK royals in Germany was launched to celebrate the 300th anniversary of UK-German royal connections.
