An Australian TV production company is filming along the Wild Atlantic Way this week, for two different TV shows – a one-hour Ireland travel special called Explore Ireland, and a weekly gardening show called The Garden Gurus.

Tourism Ireland in Sydney invited the crew to come here, to capture footage and great scenes of various locations along the Wild Atlantic Way. The resulting two TV shows, Explore Ireland and The Garden Gurus, will air to hundreds of thousands of people around Australia, in January and autumn 2015 respectively, on Nine Network and HD TV channel GEM.

The busy schedule of filming, designed by Fáilte Ireland, reflects the wide range of experiences on offer in the spectacular setting of the Wild Atlantic Way – everything from kayaking on the Killary Fjord, to golfing at Trump International Golf Links, visiting Garnish Island and The Ewe Sculpture near Glengarriff, learning to bake bread at the Firehouse Bakery & Bread School on Heir Island in West Cork and even driving a classic car in the Burren.

As well as The Garden Gurus. TV show, two articles on Ireland’s unique plants and rugged landscape will also appear in The Garden Guru Magazine, which has a readership of around 144,000 people.

Diane Butler, Tourism Ireland’s manager in Australia, said: “We are delighted that two popular TV programmes will bring the wonderful landscape and experiences of the Wild Atlantic Way to the attention of hundreds of thousands of Australians in 2015. It is a wonderful opportunity to highlight this part of Ireland to a huge audience in Australia.

Television and film are recognised as strong influencers for prospective holidaymakers and Tourism Ireland regularly works with TV and production companies around the world, to facilitate the making of travel and lifestyle programmes and films around the island of Ireland. The publicity value of TV programmes like these is incalculable – it is a great way of promoting Ireland in Australia, helping to inspire prospective holidaymakers ‘down under’ to come and experience the destination for themselves.”
