Heavy rains and winds exceeding 250 kilometers per hour (155mph) are said to continue in the Queensland’s coast of Australia.
Cyclone Marcia as it is named is a Category 4 storm. it is of a very serious nature and people have been urged to remain indoors for threat of floods and high winds that are likely to uproot trees.
The storm is said to move south along the coast of the town of Yeppoon towards Rockhampton, which lies in the north of Brisbane about 595 kilometers (370 miles).
Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk has expressed his concern over the storm that has left around 33,000 households in the area without power. This number was likely to grow as the day progresses.
The cyclone has been reduced from category five to category 4 . There is a strict warning for all to remain indoors. The storm was so intense that about 800 people were left homeless and had to be moved to temporary shelters. The wind speed will reduce to category 3 from category 4 when it reaches Rockhampton. The wind speed will be 100 kph which is still of a destructive nature.
