Tropical storm Halong lashed Japan with strong winds and thunderstorm killing one and prompting evacuation orders for more than 1 million residents near swollen rivers.
Land and air traffic was disrupted and dozens were injured as Japan began its annual “Obon” Buddhist holiday week.
Thousands of tourists were stranded at the airport with more than 200 flights cancelled. Foreign tourists are advised to check with airport officials to get information on latest flight schedules.
About 330 homes were flooded and near about 70 homes were damaged.

The storm also flooded about 330 homes and damaged 70 others in western Japan.
The meteorological agency said the storm was expected to dump more rain in eastern and northern Japan, and warned of possible landslides and floods.
