More than 200 flights cancelled as tropical storm Halong batters Japan

Land and air traffic was disrupted and dozens were injured as Japan began its annual “Obon” Buddhist holiday week.

Thousands of tourists were stranded at the airport with more than 200 flights cancelled. Foreign tourists are advised to check with airport officials to get information on latest flight schedules.

 
About 330 homes were flooded and near about 70 homes were damaged.
More than 200 flights were cancelled, stranding thousands of holidaymakers at airports around the country.

 

The storm also flooded about 330 homes and damaged 70 others in western Japan.

The meteorological agency said the storm was expected to dump more rain in eastern and northern Japan, and warned of possible landslides and floods.

The meteorological agency said the storm, packing winds of up to 100 kilometers (60 miles) per hour, was expected to dump more rain in eastern and northern Japan by Monday morning, and warned of landslides and floods.
