GTA [1], one of the world’s largest travel wholesalers, has launched its enhanced distribution deal with Grupo Posadas [2], adding 111 hotels in beach and city destinations across Mexico to its already extensive portfolio. Mexico has proven increasingly appealing to fully independent travellers with more room nights booked with GTA in 2013 by Germans, the Swiss, Irish and Turkish, as well as from the growth markets of China,
India, Indonesia and Malaysia among others.

Properties will go live by the end of the year for retail and wholesale travel businesses to book on TravelCube, Travel Bound and GTA or via XML feed. The deal further extends the variety of accommodation and experiences that GTA sells in over 190 countries.

Mexico’s domestic and inbound tourism prospects are increasingly positive, leading GTA to develop its partnership with Grupo Posadas. One of Goldman Sachs’ MIST economies – the next tier of large ‘emerging economies’ alongside Indonesia, South Korea and Turkey –
it welcomed more than 23 million international tourist arrivals in 2012 and is the most visited country in the Americas after the United States, according to the World Tourism Organization. As well as visitors from overseas, it registered 200 million domestic trips thanks to an increasingly affluent middle class.

According to Visa’s 2012 Travel Snapshot [3]1 international Visa account holder spending in Mexico increased by nearly 14%. Travellers from the US remained the largest contributor with travel spending rising 17% last year. Connectivity between the two countries is booming [4]2 with seat capacity up 8.2% during summer 2013, helped by a raft of new routes over the last 12 months. Nine of the top 12 airlines serving this
country-pair have increased capacity and in total 17 airlines currently operate at least one scheduled route between the two countrieS.

Martin Jones, GTA’s Senior Vice President for Global Sourcing & Product Development, says: “As Mexico’s popularity grows – supported by increased connectivity and affordability of travel – GTA is ready to meet demand. With Grupo Posadas on our online booking systems, customers can book an even greater choice of accommodation throughout Mexico for their clients.”

Juancho Sueyro, Commercial Director, International Division for Grupo Posadas, says: “As hospitality leaders in Mexico, our properties are chosen by travellers all around the world; therefore a commercial partnership with GTA led by this online connectivity agreement is a strategic step for Posadas to simplify our operational sales process and simultaneously expand the worldwide distribution of our hotel portfolio, in particular to the European market.”

GTA’s dynamic inventory approach to such partnerships strengthens its connections with hotel suppliers and those who sell travel. It gives consumers access to a chain’s full portfolio of properties. With travellers increasingly seeking out newer destinations off the beaten track, GTA can help hotels tap the popularity of experiential tourism.
In the last three years alone, deals with 69 chains have added more than 29,000 properties to the inventory that agents and tour operators can sell on.

Grupo Posadas hotels are found in a wide range of Mexican destinations from the bustling metropolis of Mexico City to important archaeological sites, beach resorts and ecological destinations. Winning a number of prestigious awards, the group will soon be available to book with GTA:
