singapore-airlinesIn the lead-up to the Nation’s 50th Birthday celebrations, Singapore Airlines (SIA) opened the doors of the SIA Training Centre (STC) to the public for the first time, attracting more than 7,000 visitors.

Visitors of all ages were provided exclusive access to the behind-the-scenes training of the pilots and cabin crew of SIA. The one-day Open House was graced by Guest of Honour Mrs Josephine Teo, Senior Minister of State, Ministry of Finance and Ministry of Transport.

Activities included walking tours of the Flight Simulator, Safety Training as well as Cabin Crew training facilities. Special activities were also organised for the young, such as the Junior Cabin Crew Experience, where children were given the opportunity to don the iconic SIA cabin crew uniform and role-play with a parent in a replica of the SIA A380 Business Class cabin.

In conjunction with the Open House, SIA organised an art competition with the theme “Celebrating SG50 with SIA: Growing with the Nation”. Mrs Teo, as well as SIA Chairman Mr Stephen Lee and SIA CEO Mr Goh Choon Phong presented the prizes, which included a pair of Economy Class air tickets, to the winners at a ceremony this afternoon.

Entry to the Open House was free for the public, with a nominal fee for certain activities. All proceeds from the Open House and Art Competition will be donated to the Community Chest of Singapore.

Mr Christopher Cheng, Singapore Airlines’ Senior Vice President Human Resources and Chairman of the SIA Open House and Art Competition Committee, said: “We are thrilled by the strong response to the SIA Open House and Art Competition. It is another way that we are giving back to the community which has supported us for so many years in the lead-up to Singapore’s 50th birthday next month.”

The Open House and Art Competition are among a series of events organised by SIA to celebrate the nation’s 50th Birthday. Others include the SIA Charity Run and Charity Gala Dinner held in 2014, which raised some $2.5 million for Community Chest. More than 300 beneficiaries of Community Chest, many of whom had never flown before, were also treated to a special flight on the world’s largest aircraft, the Airbus A380, on 29 May 2015.
