An untoward incident in the Weston Air Festival left spectators and participants anxious and in dismay. An 82-year-old spectator watching the display was seriously injured when a parachute crashed into her.
The woman is suspected of fractured pelvis as she was rushed in the Southmead Hospital in Bristol. This information was divulges by a spokesman for South Western Ambulance Trust. The parachutist received minor injuries as he missed the drop zone.
A spokesperson for Avon and Somerset Police said an air ambulance attended the scene and was assisted by police cadets who cleared a space for it to land.
The show continued after the incident happened, the military,health and safety executives were notified.
The incident took place quite suddenly as people were busy watching the show when the parachute thumped against the burger van.
Event Manager Darren Fairchild said the show continued after the incident.
