A successful ITB for the Maltese Islands

loadimage-300x200The Malta Tourism Authority has recently participated in the 48th Edition of the International Travel Bureau (ITB), the world’s leading travel show, held recently in Berlin. Once again the splendour of our Maltese Islands was duly represented by the Malta Tourism Authority together with Air Malta, the Gozo Tourism Association (GTA),

 

as well as other numerous Maltese and Gozitan industry partners.

Mr. Karmenu Vella, MTA Chairman Dr. Gavin Gulia and MTA CEO Mr. Josef Formosa Gauci met with 10 renowned German travel journalists from leading German trade and consumer media. The journalists were not only provided with first hand information about the latest positive developments within the Maltese Islands tourism industry, but also got a taste of the islands’ varied traditional cuisine, thanks to Gozitan Chef Mr. George Borg who wowed the media gathering with mouth-watering delicacies.

 

On the occasion of ITB, the Ambassador of the Republic of Malta to the Federal Republic of Germany, H.E. Dr. Albert Friggieri, hosted a reception under the patronage of the Hon. Minister for Tourism Mr. Karmenu Vella at the Maltese Embassy in Berlin. The event was very well attended by the Maltese and Gozitan ITB delegation as well as other guests and business partners.

 

The 48th edition of ITB attracted 10,147 exhibitors from 189 countries who were represented in 26 halls which were booked to full capacity. Overall, some 114,000 trade visitors (2013: 109,616), 5,700 accredited journalists from 81 countries and some 300 bloggers from 25 countries attended this world’s leading travel show.
 

More than 60,000 members of the general public thronged the halls on the weekend of the show. As in 2013, public visitors were able to book their holidays directly at ITB Berlin. A poll among visitors revealed that around 50 per cent intended to book a trip.
