22-300x180Photographers keen to capture the magic of Port Stephens at daybreak can join a sunrise cruise on Saturday, July 9, as well as a dawn sand-dune tour the next day, Sunday, July 10.

The two special events are ideal for children and adults entering Port Stephens’ annual, free Shutterfest photography competition from June 1 to July 13, which is part of the winter Naturefest program in Port Stephens.

The Sunrise Photography Cruise with Moonshadow-TQC Cruises on Saturday, July 9, 2016, leaves at 6.30am and aims to offer ideal photo opportunities while exploring intimate locations only accessible by boat. Photographers will also be able to capture – on camera -whales, dolphins, turtles, penguins, albatross, eagles and pelicans.

The three-hour voyage will start in the harbour and head through the rocky headlands and into open waters near secluded beaches and unspoiled islands. On the return trip, guests will enjoy a delicious breakfast. Professional photographer, Bonita Holmes, will be on board to offer advice and handy tips.

The Sunrise Photography cruise from the marina in Nelson Bay will cost $69 for adults, and $64 for seniors and students. It is not suitable for children under 12 years old.
Meanwhile, Port Stephens 4WD Tours will host a special Sunrise Tin City and Sand Dune Photography Tour the following day on Sunday, July 10, 2016.

The two-hour adventure will depart from the lower carpark at the end of James Patterson St in Anna Bay at 6.10am and take snappers across the vast, Sahara-like sand dunes of the Worimi Conservation Lands, which soar up to 30m behind Stockton Beach. At dawn, photographers can take pictures over the dunes or of Tin City, a collection of squatters’ huts built in the 1930s and which featured in the 1979 Mad Max movie.
