ACI To Host Second Annual Investing In Airports Conference In Goa

Published on : Thursday, June 9, 2016

aciAirports Council International (ACI), in cooperation with the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and the International Transport Forum (ITF) at the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), will host the 2nd annual Investing in Airports conference, to take place this year at the Planet Hollywood Beach Resort in Goa, India from 6–8 December.

The event will identify solutions to the challenge of attracting much-needed investments for the sustainable development of airports. This investment helps communities realise the economic opportunities aviation brings. The conference will foster discussion among aviation stakeholders, including airports, airlines, regulators and investors, and explore the evolution of competition in the sector. In this context, the role and functions of States and regulatory authorities will be addressed to provide a better understanding of the scope, forms and key objectives of economic oversight and regulation, and how appropriate structures of public-private partnerships can enhance connectivity and economic development.

Panel discussions include: policy frameworks for sustained capital investments; the investment horizon; the state of the airport industry; the current process of privatization in India; the South East Asian capacity crunch; the coexistence of public interest, bankability and a focus on the user; investing in airports; market power and competition; regulatory divergence or convergence; customer focused approaches to the oversight function; and, new trends in airport regulatory frameworks.

“Aviation—and specifically airports’ role within the sector—is continually evolving. Airports can no longer be viewed simply as pieces of infrastructure where planes land and take off; they have increasingly become complex businesses in their own right that in many cases compete with each other to be the gateway to cities, regions and even entire continents,” explains Angela Gittens, Director General, ACI World. “More than anything, the Investing in Airports conference, jointly organized by ACI, ICAO and the ITF at the OECD, is about fostering the right environment for investing in airports and ensuring that regulation evolves in step with the industry. This is essential for a sustainable future that can accommodate growth in the demand for air service.”
