Agoda.com unveils top hotels for ski holidays in Japan

AgodaAgoda.com, one of Asia’s leading hotel booking sites and part of Nasdaq-listed Priceline Group, has unveiled a list of hotels that give access to some of Japan’s best-known ski resorts, renowned for fine powder and dramatic mountain scenery.

Japan has put Asia on the world skiing map, gaining in fame and world renown to the point of competing with the world famous resorts in Switzerland and Colorado. Japan is also a great holiday destination in its own right, with rugged mountains and an extensive train network. The country has over 500 ski resorts that cater to all levels of enthusiasts. The ski season is a long one by world standards, running from November to April.

The hotels uncovered by Agoda are in four of Japan’s best locations for skiing – Sapporo, Otaru, Niseko, and Nagano. They are centrally located allowing travelers to choose a number of different hills on which to spend their days. The first three cities are located on the northern Japanese island of Hokkaido which benefits from heavy, consistent snow due to winter air blasts from Siberia. Further south, Nagano boasts a central location amid the Japanese Alps. Two of these destinations have been host to the Winter Olympic Games, Sapporo in 1972 and Nagano in 1998.

In addition to world class skiing, visitors can immerse themselves in Japanese culture. The unique food, intricate tea ceremonies, ice sculpting festivals, and karaoke are a combination only found in Japan. Best of all, many of the resorts have outdoor onsens, public baths filled with water heated by geothermal springs. Let the natural hot spring water soak away the bumps and bruises of the slopes.
