Australian Hotels Association-NT (AHANT)The Australian Hotels Association-NT (AHANT) trade week comes to an end tomorrow night with the industry awards at the Darwin Casino.

“Hospitality accounts for a significant percentage of the employment landscape and reaches into almost every corner of the Territory, employing 13,000 people, and contributing $821 million to the Territory economy,” Minister for Business Peter Styles said.

“The industry forum and trade show are fundamental to enabling industry to engage with the Giles Government and the AHANT, who are working together across a suite of programs and reforms.

The Awards for Excellence is the culmination of the AHANT’s Hospitality Trade Week. Over 36 categories highlighting excellence in hospitality venues and staff who have performed exceptionally throughout the past year will be presented on Thursday night.

Minister Styles will present the Award for the Responsible Service of Alcohol and the Responsible Service of Gambling at the AHANT Aristocrat Technologies Awards for Excellence, recognising excellence in the Territory’s hospitality industry.

“The Northern Territory Government recognises venues who have implemented practises and processes that support patron care and host responsibility. The awards acknowledge venues which support staff in preventing alcohol and gambling related harm and provide comprehensive on the job training,” Mr Styles said.

“The Giles Government works closely with hoteliers and suppliers to minimise the risks associated with irresponsible drinking and gambling, so that everyone can enjoy a night out.”

Hundreds of hospitality managers and suppliers from across the Territory and beyond have travelled to Darwin for this event to network and find out about the latest products, services and news for their industry.

The Trade Show at Darwin Turf Club today hosted ten of the Territories best bartenders to compete in the ‘Bartender of the Year’ Award in front of judges and trade show attendees. Bartenders were put to the test making a classic cocktail for the judges in under 3 minutes.

The winner of the ‘Bartender of the Year’ Award is announced tomorrow night at the Awards for Excellence at SKYCITY Darwin.
