airplane_xlarge1-300x240Almost 250 passengers on board survived some scary moments as an Air India plane and an Indigo flight escaped a probable collision in Bagdogra on Friday.

The bizarre situation came up when the Air Traffic Control (ATC) gave clearance to both the aircraft.

The Air India flight 879, carrying 120 passengers, was descending and the Indigo Bagdogra-Delhi flight 6E472 with 130 passengers on board was given clearance to take off.

According to a spokesperson, the Indigo flight departed at 12.22pm. As they came close to each other violating the 1000m separation, the pilots of the Indigo plane and the Air India aircraft, however, maneuvered themselves to avoid the collision.

Once the Captains received “clear-of-conflict” message, they maneuvered back to normal situation, he added.

Finally, the Indigo flight landed at Delhi at 2.15pm according to reports.

The DCGA is holding an inquiry over the incident and said that it will try and reduce such irresponsible air traffic control.
