Airport Roads Investment A Win For Sydney Visitors

ttfImproved ground transport solutions in and around Sydney Airport will improve the visitor experience at the nation’s major gateway, according to peak national industry body Tourism & Transport Forum (TTF).

TTF Acting Chief Executive Trent Zimmerman said these upgrades will be of major benefit for visitors and travelling locals.

“As Australia’s largest international gateway, it’s important that transport to and from the airport is simple and time efficient,” said Mr Zimmerman.

“For many international visitors, Sydney Airport will be their first impression of Australia and their last experience; we need to put our best foot forward to meet increasing customer expectations and compete with other global destinations.

“Passenger numbers at Sydney Airport are forecast to double over the next 20 years, driving demand for better transport connections to and from the airport.

“These road upgrades will improve traffic flow around the airport and Port Botany which will mean quicker travel times for visitors between the airport and their final destination.

“We are pleased to see Sydney Airport and the New South Wales government working together to improve ground transport access to this important precinct.

“However, to accompany these road upgrades, the NSW government should also commit to reducing the current $16.40 train fare from the CBD to the airport’s domestic terminal and to providing additional bus services to make the most of the airport’s planned bus interchange.

“At a federal level we are also calling on the government to lift the arbitrary cap of 80 aircraft movements an hour and remove the 15 minute slot system.

“Australia’s tourism industry needs its primary international gateway working at peak performance, both on the ground and in the sky, and this is only possible with the support of both the NSW and federal governments.”
