androidSmartphone users can now download the “Berlin Airport” app in time for the Christmas period. A new Android version is also available. Both apps can be downloaded free of charge and offer passengers and meeters and greeters a comprehensive range of services relating to Schönefeld and Tegel airports. “Berlin Airport” has been available as an iOS app since July and has now been enhanced to include Passbook and a tracking feature which detects when the user is near one of the airports. In conjunction with Heinemann Duty Free, the airport operator is launching a promotion offering 5,000 vouchers worth €5 each via Passbook (no minimum spend) for the Heinemann Duty Free shops at Schönefeld and Tegel airports. “Our mobile information services consisting of the app and a mobile website cater for the high demand for fast, 24/7 access to personalised information which provides full details of flights via Schönefeld and Tegel airports,” says Hartmut Mehdorn, CEO of Flughafen Berlin Brandenburg GmbH. “At the same time, we are increasing the services we offer with the app. I’m delighted that Heinemann Duty Free has agreed to work with us, giving us an attractive partner as we roll out our mobile services.”

Android app now available

The first “Berlin Airport” app for Android has been available free of charge on Google Play since mid-November. Like the iOS app, the Android version offers simple, fast and personalised access to flight details and general airport information for Schönefeld and Tegel. Details of all arriving and departing flights can be called up easily using the “Berlin Airport” app. With the “My Flight” feature, passengers receive personalised details about checking in, their gate, boarding, and any changes or delays as push notifications on their smartphones. A calendar function allows flight times to be imported directly into the user’s own calendar. Pre-prepared messages containing personal flight details can also be sent to family and friends as texts or e-mails. In addition to this, users can access extensive information about Schönefeld and Tegel airports, such as getting to and from the airport, details of shops, restaurants and services, and zoomable terminal maps to help them find their way around. Although an active internet connection is needed to update flight details, general information about the airports can also be called up offline. Users can provide feedback about the app on Google Play or via the “Feedback” button in the app.

New features for Apple users

Two features have been added to the “Berlin Airport” iOS app: a tracking function and Passbook. From now on, the app detects when the user is near Berlin Schönefeld or Berlin Tegel airport and suggests switching to the content for the nearby airport. Travellers and passengers using either airport can also make use of vouchers, coupons and special offers via the Passbook feature. Users are sent push notifications informing them about new coupons.

Advent special with Heinemann Duty Free

Heinemann Duty Free is running a coupon promotion via Passbook for the first time. From 1 to 31 December 2013, travellers can download a digital €5 voucher which can be redeemed in Heinemann Duty Free shops at Berlin Schönefeld and Berlin Tegel airports. No minimum spend is required. Passengers simply show the pass on their mobile at the checkout and the assistant scans the QR code. Heinemann Duty Free is running the Passbook offer to test this new iOS function. The promotion is designed to offer passengers at the airports in Berlin an additional attractive purchasing incentive.
