f0ji9g9vaahjw4t42r4wAn Argyll hotel has joined a group of the most exclusive restaurants in the UK in being included in the Tatler Restaurant Guide for 2016.

The Airds Hotel & Restaurant in Port Appin, near Oban, is one of only 50 outside London, and the only one in Argyll, to be named in the guide published once a year showcasing the prestigious publication’s take on the top 200 restaurants in the UK.

The honour of being included in this year’s guide adds to the long list of accolades the restaurant at The Airds Hotel has to its name under head chef Chris Stanley – inclusion in The Good Food Guide since 1976 and a recommendation in the Michelin Guide in 2016 to name just a few.

The restaurant prides itself on using fresh local ingredients to serve dishes that make the most of the West Coast seafood on the doorstep, as well as local Scottish meat such as venison and beef.

The surrounding scenery and the creative culinary delights are both mentioned in the restaurant’s entry within the Guide. It reads:

“What happens when you fall for your favourite holiday retreat? If you’re Shaun McKivragan you buy it, of course. Fair play, given its staggering setting overlooking Loch Linnhe. In the kitchen, Chris Stanley is turning out witty, imaginative dishes. The crisp egg in Isle of Man-cheese foam amuse will bring a smile, and a walnut soufflé with pear sorbet and crème anglaise is as tall as a top hat. Stay the night to enjoy a spanking breakfast and hearty walk around the loch.”

The Airds Hotel & Restaurant owner, Shaun McKivragan, said: “We are over the moon to have been included in the very prestigious Tatler Restaurant Guide 2016. It is extremely difficult to get into this guide and it is a real testament to Head Chef, Chris Stanley, and General Manager, Graham Steven, that they have achieved this.”

Regional Director for VisitScotland, David Adams McGilp, said: “My congratulations go to the team at The Airds Hotel & Restaurant on achieving this status. It is accolades like these that help to boost the growing reputation of restaurants, cafes, bars and pubs in Argyll & The Isles. Food and drink are an integral part of the outstanding tourism experience the region offers so it’s important that we promote the fantastic quality of our local produce and the superb standard of catering on offer here so that we inspire more visitors to explore the region.”
