chiltern-railwaysAs passenger trains stop between Bicester and Oxford, train company reveals replacement buses specifically redesigned for Oxford’s cycling commuters As the last trains run on the Bicester to Oxford line, Chiltern Railways have revealed their support for Oxford’s cyclists with specially refitted rail replacement buses.

The buses will operate from 15 February following the last passenger trains on 14 February as the company constructs a new line between Oxford and London Marylebone due to open from brand new station, Oxford Parkway from summer 2015.

Four buses have been specially fitted to provide capacity for eight bikes each.

Jenny Payne, Customer Service Director at Chiltern Railways said:  “The new line between Oxford and London Marylebone will bring great benefits for the region however, we recognise that the work significantly affects our Bicester – Oxford customers for an extended period of time.  We’ve been working hard to provide the right rail replacement service that meets the specific requirements of those travelling into Oxford that include the many cyclists using our line.  The innovative refitted buses have been especially designed for our Oxford cyclists and we hope commuters will find them useful.”

The line closes to passenger services from 15 February, but local residents should be aware that freight and construction trains will continue to use the line during the works and therefore level crossings will still be in use.

Once completed, the Chiltern Railways project will provide Oxfordshire a new rail route to London, improve services between Bicester and Oxford, and will re-establish a direct rail link between Oxford and High Wycombe.
