Austrian Chief Commercial Officer Karsten Benz will be taking over the newly-created position of Group Infrastructure Officer of the Lufthansa Group, based in Frankfurt, from 1st October 2014 onwards.
In this new function, he will be merging the infrastructure divisions of Lufthansa Passage and the Group. A decision regarding his successor in his present function of Chief Commercial Officer at Austrian Airlines has not yet been reached. The Committee of the Supervisory Board will propose the Executive Board change to the Supervisory Board in its next session.

He has emphasised clear features in the market during this hard period of restructuring at Austrian Airlines, and introduced a new sales strategy with the strengthening of Ancillary Services. I would like to thank Karsten Benz for having contributed decisively to the process of restructuring at Austrian Airlines by making these changes”, Harry Hohmeister, Chairman of the Austrian Airlines Supervisory Board, said today.
Karsten Benz has been in the position of CCO at Austrian Airlines since 1st April 2012. During that time he has made a crucial contribution to taking the company back into profit for the first time in six years. He has streamlined the network of Austrian Airlines, and successfully pushed ahead with the company’s expansion into North America. By reequipping the carrier’s long-haul fleet with a modern cabin layout and repositioning the brand, Karsten Benz clearly strengthened the presence of the Austrian Airlines Group both at home and abroad. In the private travel market, the leisure brand Austrian myHoliday was successfully introduced.
