As part of their PCI DSS programme, Avios was required to upgrade their agent selling platform in order to meet PCI DSS requirements.
The Comtec Approach
Avios had been using Comtec’s TravelCat platform since 2002, which was self-hosted by Avios. The application had various bespoke developments incorporated into the product over the years. Comtec suggested a 3 stage approach:
Upgrade Avios to the latest version of the core TravelCat application
Move the platform to Comtec’s hosted tier 3 location at Global Switch
Upgrade the front end selling platform to TravelConnect (PCI DSS password compliant

The Delivery Solution
We began development work in September 2013 to move Avios to the latest version of TravelCat. This involved porting all the relevant Avios developments and then carrying out a thorough testing phase.
Whilst development was in progress, Comtec made provisions to move the Avios selling applications to our tier 3 location at Global Switch, Docklands. This also involved moving TravelCat onto the latest Solaris platform.
Avios went live with the newly hosted TravelCat application in December 2013 and also continued to use Comtec’s ATOL service.
The next step was to move Avios onto TravelConnect, which is able to integrate the booking journey with TravelCat. This enabled Avios to have a system that was fully PCI DSS password compliant but it also gave the selling agents a much more feature rich environment in which search, cost and book travel components.
Train the Trainer took place in November 2013 and was well received. The Avios training team championed the application and promoted its advantages to the business from the outset
