Moscow Domodedovo Airport is once again a leader in terms of the passenger traffic grow rate according to the report of the ACI Europe. In the largest European airports category the air hub, during the summer months of 2014, retains the first place.
This August Moscow Domodedovo Airport passenger traffic increased by 13.2% yoy and amounted to more than 4 million people.
During the three summer months the total passenger traffic figure of the largest airport of Russia amounted to 11.2 million people. For the period from January to August 2014 the passenger traffic increased by 9.1% yoy and amounted to 22.7 million people.
According to the ACI Europe classification, Moscow Domodedovo Airport is among the largest hubs in Europe with annual passenger traffic exceeding 25 million persons, along with such leaders of the aviation industry as London Heathrow, Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport, Amsterdam Schiphol and others. It is the first Russian air hub that managed to achieve such indicators.
Currently, Moscow Domodedovo Airport is actively implementing a number of major projects, among which the most important one is the construction of the second segment of the passenger terminal, commissioning of which will help to increase the capacity of the airport complex. Yet another major project is reconstruction of the second runway, in which Moscow Domodedovo Airport is involved under the federal targeted investment program. Implementation of all projects at Moscow Domodedovo Airport is first of all aimed at improving the quality of service for passengers and visitors of the airport, as well as at creating the most comfortable conditions for visitors of the air hub.
ACI Europe represents interests of more than 450 airports in 45 European countries. In 2013, the airports belonging to the association served 90% of all commercial air traffic in Europe, and their passenger traffic reached 1.7 billion passengers and cargo traffic − 17.8 million tons.
