August is considered one of the most popular month for family vacation, along with the growth of inbound and outbound passenger flow in summer holiday, the Macau International Airport (MIA) recorded a stable increase on passenger traffic volume and aircraft movements.
MIA carried over 520,000 passengers and 3,400 aircraft movements in August 2014; both recorded increase of 6.5% and 1.4% respectively comparing the same period of 2013.
Of Which, passenger volume surpassed half million in Aug 2014, recording the highest monthly passenger volume since MIA started operation. Mainland China and Southeast Asia routes continually performed well with registered increases of 13% and 6.5% respectively over the same month last year.
Starting from 6th September 2014, Air Macau will launch direct flight service on Macau – Tianjin routes, providing 4 flights per week. Whereas in mid-September, a new airline will be launching Macau – Phnom Penh flight service, operating 2 flights per week, and planned to increase flight frequency to 3 flights per week by the end of this year. Simultaneously, another airline attempts to take the advantage of the fifth air freedom of Macau launching air service from Thailand to Palau via Macau. MIA has always been closely cooperating with airlines and related tourism entities.
In addition, to strengthen the existing flights, MIA has encouraged airlines to increase flight frequency to popular destinations and also actively cooperate with travel agencies to develop charter flight services to drive potential market, making every endeavor to develop air service to major cities of Asia countries, and provide travelers with more destination options. Meanwhile, MIA will further strengthen passenger services and enhance the quality of service to improve passenger satisfaction.
