BRING-ON-CHINESE-NEW-300x168Chinese New Year is known as the most important traditional holiday for many people.

Also called Spring Festival, its well-kept customs are inherited from ancient China as part of the essence of Chinese culture.

There are several things those celebrating might want to know about the greatest celebration of the year:

Red paper cuts and couplets with favoured poems symbolizing luck, happiness or wealth decorate windows and doors of family homes.
Garbage and dust better not to be cleared outside till the 5th day; meanwhile firecrackers are very popular during that day to welcome the god of wealth.
Daily celebrations come to an end on the 15th of Chinese New Year, known as the Lantern Festival.
A perfect ending includes activities such as making dumplings together with family, or spending night in lighted lantern market.

From the very beginning, the whole blissful celebration starts with the reunion family dinner at the last day before Chinese Lunar New Year.

Award-winning fine Chinese restaurant Shàng-Xí at Four Seasons Hotel Pudong, Shanghai presents two options of delicately-prepared set menus designed by Chinese Executive Chef Simon Choi.

Using top-graded fresh ingredients and adding some western elements into the traditional ambience, Chef Choi brings the good meaning of luck and happiness in the menu as well.

Abalone, with its shape just like the golden ingot in ancient China, symbolizes hoping for good wealth.

Guests can’t miss out fish in the menu of a family dinner as it implies affluence and good luck.

Savour Chef’s recommendation of steamed star garoupa fillet with black truffle and preserved mandarin peel in bamboo basket.

He selects black truffle to “cross-over” the traditional way of steamed star garoupa fillet instead of the usual ingredients and sauce, makin it a fresh choice for the reunion of the year.

And, there’s nothing better than having a bowl of classic fried glutinous rice with cured meat and conpoy wrapped in lotus leaf to act as a warm Chinese ending with loved ones.

A complimentary bottle of red wine is offered with minimum of four persons.

Menu offered from February 18 to March 1, 2015
Price: CNY 988 / 1,388 per person, subject to 15 percent service charge
